The Angel Foundation, (TAG Foundation) on the 28th of August launched its campaign to raise One million households out of extreme poverty by the Year 2025 at the flag-off meeting with stakeholders in the Ojokoro LCDA area of Lagos.

According to the program coordinator for the TAG Foundation, Henry Madufor, the initiative was inspired by the desire to contribute to the reduction of poverty and bridging the gap in delivering aid to the most vulnerable households in Lagos particularly the Ojokoro community.

The co-founder of the Foundation, Shedrach Oyi-Obute pointed out that the foundation is determined to create an effective structure distribution channel, ensuring that palliatives from donor bodies and government channels get the households and individuals who are in desperate need of them. He also added the channels started by the government and politicians needed an overhaul.

Oyi-Obute also stated that the level of poverty in the country has denied people’s access to social adequate living standards and that available statistics show that over 90 million Nigerians are poor and out of this number, over 68.8 per cent are food poor, which mean they are unable to have a basic meal per day.

“However, as a result of the recent pandemic crisis globally so many Nigerians have been plunged into extreme poverty thereby causing a spike in crime rate, unemployment, and high cases of sexual based gender violence.

The process for the nomination would be conducted via the Foundation’s website and followed by visits to these households to verify that they are indeed in need of help. Upon confirmation, the households are really in extreme poverty, they would be registered and enrolled in the program. A unique bank account for them in which we will be crediting them with N12, 000 monthly

The Foundation would also deliver monthly palliatives to these poor households through our distribution centers to be located across all wards in the country. The supply would include food items such as rice, beans, garri, noodles, oil, tomato paste and other groceries.

Mr Jamiu Odebiyi, Chief of Staff to the LCDA Chairman, applauded the Foundation for coming up with such a laudable initiative and would ensure that the initiative gets to the rightful beneficiaries.
